Sitting, she watched the snow drift onto a shriveled garden rose and waited.
As a child, tomorrow held sparkling promise: marriage, children, laughter, romance, wealth and she couldn’t wait!
Only one adventure to wait for now.
“Here again, Mrs. Thompson? I’ll take you to your room,” the nurse said.
Maybe death will come for me tomorrow.

“He’s sick again,” she said when Sam touched her.
Every night, she stood on-guard in this doorway.
With his arm around her, Sam guided her back to bed. Long after she cried herself to sleep, he stared at the ceiling and begged.
Don’t let the leukemia return for their child.
Please God, not ever again.
